Focus on Hydrogen
Hydrogen is a key to the energy transition
Hydrogen is a key to the energy transition. It can be produced in a climate-neutral manner and, like biomethane and natural gas, can be transported, stored and used. Hydrogen thus enables the decarbonization of power plants, industry, the heating market, and the transport sector. And it is available as a backup, if too little renewable electricity is generated.
Multi-talented gas network
We are the link between producers and consumers of green hydrogen. Since 2013, we have been transporting green hydrogen from two power-to-gas plants, as an admixture in our network. In the Bad Lauchstädt Energy Park real laboratory, we will be converting around 20 kilometers of natural gas pipeline to pure hydrogen by 2024. And with our three IPCEI projects, we are driving forward the development of a networked hydrogen economy in our network area and thus the integration into the European hydrogen infrastructure (European Hydrogen Backbone), all together with business partners and the regions. In national and European committees and organizations of politics and the economy, we are committed to efficient framework conditions and a rapid market ramp-up for hydrogen.
